A hotel lobby push freed a slot, and I’d like to fill it with one more curve-forward piece — think rift white oak paneling, stair skins, and tight sightlines. Wrapped a 27’ radius wall last week; shop is tooled for field templates, veneer layup, and crisp fits (Felder KF 700, vacuum bag). If a GC or design studio in the Northeast needs precise fabrication and install between Nov 12–Dec 20, I’m available.
On curved rift-oak panels I “back-bevel the returns 2°” before install so the scribe disappears; PVA’s fine, but I’ve had fewer creep issues with Unibond 800 on tight radii — are you bagging a hair oversize for a clean flush-trim?
For “tight sightlines,” bias forms 3/16” for springback; vacuum at about 21 inHg — higher bruised my rift oak once.
Quick example: on a 27’ radius lobby wall we just did in white oak, a 1/8" neoprene soft caul in the bag kept the face from bruising and stopped any print-through. The KF 700 will dial the back-miters, but I still leave the skin 1/32" proud and ‘sneak up’ with a compression trimmer on site so sightlines stay dead true. If your November slot’s open, I’ve got a Boston GC with a serpentine stair skin mid-month that needs a shop set for field templates and install.
We installed a 27’ lobby curve last November — “balance your layup” with a paper or phenolic backer inside the bend and a thin crossband under the face to stop glue lines telegraphing. If the slab isn’t dead true, a 1/4" shadow reveal at floor/ceiling reads cleaner than chasing the last 1/8" on site with the KF 700.
